Events Calendar Pro, integrated
Rather than a bolt-on, the calendar was woven into a custom theme — Events Calendar Pro tailored to the venue's programming so concerts, talks, podcasts, and services all live in one coherent, branded system.
SIXTH & I
An award-winning custom WordPress theme for a historic DC synagogue and cultural venue — with a seamless Events Calendar Pro integration behind hundreds of shows a year.
Sixth & I is a one-of-a-kind center for arts, entertainment, ideas, and Jewish life in the heart of Washington, DC — housed in a beautifully revitalized 1908 historic synagogue. On any given night the sanctuary might host a sold-out indie concert, a Pulitzer winner's talk, or a Shabbat dinner. Storify Agency told that dual story; Odd Pixel built the platform beneath it — an award-winning custom WordPress theme with a deep Events Calendar Pro integration that earned a 2014 Webby Honoree distinction.
Hundreds of events a year
one seamless calendar.
A venue this busy needs a seriously robust backend. Concerts, talks, podcasts, and religious services all share one calendar, and visitors have to be able to find exactly the kind of night they're looking for without wading through everything else. The site also had to hold up when thousands of fans rush in at once to buy tickets for a marquee name.
Storify's design honored the building's Romanesque architecture and famous domed ceiling while feeling unmistakably modern. My job was to turn that into a fast, dependable platform — an intuitive event calendar with dynamic filtering and a frictionless path from discovering an event to taking a seat in the pews.
Four engineering moves
behind the platform.
Rather than a bolt-on, the calendar was woven into a custom theme — Events Calendar Pro tailored to the venue's programming so concerts, talks, podcasts, and services all live in one coherent, branded system.
Visitors sort the full roster by event type in a click — concerts, talks, podcasts, or services — so anyone can cut straight to the kind of night they came for without the calendar feeling siloed.
A streamlined ticketing flow built for the rush, so checkout stays frictionless even when thousands of fans hit the site at once for a marquee speaker or sold-out show.
A fast-loading architecture the venue team can run themselves — adding events, updating podcast episodes, and growing the roster without hitting technical bottlenecks.
Six parts,
one platform.
A bespoke theme — Webby-honored — built to carry Sixth & I's blend of historic architecture and modern, vibrant design without compromise.
A seamless, intricate integration of The Events Calendar Pro, tailored to a venue running hundreds of high-profile events every year.

A fast-loading custom backend that keeps a packed, image-rich events site quick and dependable across devices.
A scalable foundation the team manages themselves — new events, podcast episodes, and growth with no technical bottlenecks.
